San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel may be a household name, but the front office reportedly isn’t seeking much value in a potential blockbuster trade.
During Super Bowl 59 weekend, it was reported that the 49ers granted Deebo Samuel and his agent permission to seek a trade. The 29-year-old is heading into the final season of a three-year worth $71.5 million.
The cap-strapped 49ers must extend quarterback Brock Purdy (also entering a contract year), and the presences of Jauan Jennings and 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall mean that Samuel’s role in the San Fran offense would diminish even more in 2025.
According to a report from ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, the 49ers would “probably” be happy with a price of one or two Day 3 draft picks in exchange for Deebo Samuel:
Because Samuel is coming off a down year and is entering the final year of his contract with other top receivers set to be available in free agency or trade, a Day 3 draft pick and perhaps another late-round pick would probably satisfy the 49ers.
Samuel recorded 51 catches for 670 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 136 rushing yards and a rushing scores. Aside from the 2020 season in which he was limited to seven games, 2024 marked the worst statistical campaign of Samuel’s career.
The 2019 second-round pick was named a First-team All-Pro in 2021 after recording 1,405 receiving yards and 1,770 scrimmage yards. That year, Samuel also led the NFL with 18.2 yards per reception.
Deebo Samuel Should Have Plenty Of Interest On Trade Market
The Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Chargers stand out as playoff-contending teams who make sense for Samuel.
Given his ability to take over games as a pass-catcher and WR, don’t be surprised if more than a dozen teams seriously inquire about his availability.
