The unexpected shift marked a pivotal turning point, sparking audience excitement as Fox News entrusted Martha MacCallum with a special, high-stakes responsibility.
Fox News is shifting some of its news anchors to add a weekday opinion show.
Martha MacCallum is losing her early evening slot at 7 p.m. ET to a new opinion show, the network announced Monday.
MacCallum will move to anchor the network’s news coverage at 3 p.m. ET.
The new show, “Fox News Primetime,” will be led by a number of rotating opinion hosts, CNN reports.
The change comes as a competing news network, Newsmax, cuts into Fox News’ audience, although its numbers remain small in comparison. Fox News still is the highest-rated cable news network.
To accommodate the shift, Fox News is revamping its daytime lineup. Bill Hemmer is moving to co-host with Dana Perino in the 9-11 a.m. slot. Sandra Smith will co-host “America’s Newsroom” with John Roberts 1-3 p.m.
Harris Faulkner will anchor earlier at 11 a.m. with a new show, “The Faulkner Focus.”
CNN also announced several changes to its White House coverage team, and added Abby Phillips to the weeknight lineup with her own show.
