The Today Show meteorologist Al Roker left fans puzzled when he kicked off the week with his Monday update on Instagram. Just like his Thanksgiving weekend update, his newest video featured him enjoying his daily morning walk. Again, the TV personality took the time to encourage his Instagram followers to get out into the world and consider going on daily walks as well.

Things, however, got a bit weird for his followers when his wife Deborah Roberts made an appearance in his video. Sadly, the video didn’t turn into a  cute video of this adorable couple walking together. Surprisingly, the video took an unexpected twist when Al Roker left Deborah behind.

Today: Fans Ask Why Al Roker Left His Wife, Deborah Behind?

Taking to Instagram this morning, Al Roker was bundled up for the winter weather as he enjoyed his morning walk. In both the caption and his video, he joked that you never know who you might run into while on a walk. He panned his phone over to show that he was walking in the direction of his wife.

Deborah Roberts also had her phone up talking to it (presumably to vlog for Instagram as well). Al Roker and his wife shouted at each other with excitement as they walked passed each other and continued to walk in opposite directions.

In the comments, many fans questioned why Al Roker and his wife didn’t just walk together. Here’s what some of his fans said:

“What? You don’t walk together?”
“Silly question- why don’t you walk together? Lol”
“Please tell Debra to walk facing traffic like you are. With your back to traffic, you have NO chance to see what a driver is doing”

He Offered An Explanation

Now, Al Roker was not one to leave his followers scratching their heads. In both his own comment and in response to other comments, he explained what was going on. He clarified that they do start their morning walk together. She, however, gets away from him when she switches to running because he is just walking.

He clarified: “For those asking, we start together, but Deborah runs and I walk. You do the math”
