REVEALING INTERVIEW: Carol Kirkwood Opens Up About Her ‘EXHAUSTING’ Role Away From BBC Breakfast

Back in 2015, BBC Breakfast viewers were thrilled to see Carol Kirkwood join the line-up for Strictly Come Dancing. The 63-year-old competed alongside professional dancer Pasha Kovalev, with the duo leaving the competition in week seven.

Now, 10 years after her appearance on Strictly, the BBC star has recalled her time on the dancefloor while speaking to Gary Davies on Radio Two.

When asked if she still keeps in touch with the other celebrities who took part in the same year she competed in, Carol revealed she does, especially with Jeremy Vine.

She added: “I remember Jeremy and I were standing in what was called Claudia’s Tower looking down, and Helen George, who was also in that year, was doing the most beautiful, elegant Waltz.

“I turned to him and said, ‘Jeremy, we might as well just enjoy the short time we’re going to have on this show,’ and we did!”

However, the BBC star confessed it was hard work dancing on Strictly while still doing weather reports for Breakfast in the morning.

She continued: “When you look back on it, you think, ‘I can’t believe I did that’. It was joyous, it was really hard work because I was working Monday to Friday, doing Breakfast at the time.

“So I was exhausted doing it, but Pasha Kovalec, my partner, is a gent as well and a really, really nice man.”

Carol revealed that when she got into rehearsals, she’d get her left and right legs mixed up with Pasha, making light of the situation.

The 63-year-old added: “He’d make me laugh, sometimes I’d say, ‘Pasha, I can’t do this, I haven’t got this’ and he’d say, ‘Oh don’t worry, you’ll get it tomorrow’. Just chilled!”

When asked if she was a natural dancer, Carol quickly denied the statement and joked she was like a ‘cart horse’.

Currently, Strictly fans are eagerly awaiting to see which celebrities will be taking to the dancefloor this year.

Although the lineup is yet to be confirmed, names have already been speculated online, with the names of Dani Dyer, Stacey Solomon, Ashley Cain, and Paul Brunson being mentioned.

However, people will have to wait a little longer for the official line-up, which is expected to start being released over the next few weeks.

Strictly Come Dancing will return this Autumn on BBC One with BBC Breakfast available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
