ABC’s star anchor, David Muir, has done it again!

The 51-year-old, who has been at the helm of the network for over two decades, has steered ABC World News Tonight to the unique distinction of being the only evening newscast to not lose any viewership in total viewers or the Adults 25-54 demographic for the week of July 14.

But that’s not all. The long-standing program was the sole broadcast to exhibit growth in either of the measured categories, as it saw an increase in the demographic.

In contrast, other evening newscasts airing on NBC and CBS have seen slight declines across the board.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight averaged 7.266 million total viewers and 1.037 million Adults 25-54 demographic viewers for the week of July 14.

During this week, David covered stories on tragedies such as the Arizona wildfires, the aftermath of the Texas flash floods and the Pembroke Pines plane crash, along with other segments on President Donald Trump’s health and Beyoncé, to name a few.

It held steady in total viewers and saw a +5% increase in the demographic compared to the previous week. When comparing its performance to the same week in 2024 (the week beginning July 15), WNT was up +5% in total viewers and +7% in the demographic.

The program has clinched the title of the most-watched show on television for the 10th week in a row, both with and without sports. For the second time in three years, World News Tonight surpassed Fox’s MLB All-Star Game in total viewership, boasting 7.266 million compared to 7.185 million.

Interestingly, this marks only the second instance in at least 33 years where an evening newscast has outperformed the midseason classic during the week, dating back to when the Nielsen electronic database was established in September 1991.

NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas secured second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 5.583 million and 838,000 viewers, respectively.

Despite this, the broadcast experienced a slight dip, down -1% in total viewers and -2% in the A25-54 demo. However, it wasn’t all bad news for the ABC competitor, as the Tuesday edition of NBC Nightly News outpaced ABC World News Tonight in the advertiser-coveted demo, pulling in 997,000 viewers versus ABC News’ 870,000 demo viewers.

This represents Nightly News’ second-largest demo win of the current season. Meanwhile, CBS Evening News garnered a total of 3.775 million viewers and 498,000 viewers in the demo for the week of July 14.

The broadcast saw a decrease of -3% in total viewers and -1% in the demo compared to the previous week. Its stats from the same period last year were also down by -6% in total viewers and -9% in the demo.
