LUCKY GIRL: Naga Munchetty lands key role on BBC Breakfast

Naga Munchetty has revealed she feels “lucky” to be enjoying her role as a presenter on BBC Breakfast.

The TV and radio star has been a co-host on BBC Breakfast since 2014, typically fronting Thursday to Saturday shows alongside Charlie Stayt.

During today’s programme (July 24), Naga gave an insight into how much she enjoys her role in a passing comment.

Amid an interview with Plebs star Tom Basden, Naga scarcastically began: “Going to work and enjoying your job? Awful.”

As Tom replied: “Imagine,” Naga added: “I don’t have to actually, I’m lucky.”

The interview had focused on Tom talking about the return of Here We Go for a new series, where he revealed they had to stop filming “a lot” because the cast couldn’t stop laughing.

“Because we have these very long takes where the camera is following the family through the house, things can go wrong very quickly and we just make each other laugh a lot” he admitted.

Tom added: “By the time we’ve done 10 or 12 takes of a scene, it can often get a bit unwieldy and we struggle to actually get through it.”

Referencing how much the cast made each other laugh on set, he continued: “It’s a nice problem to have,” leading to Naga’s comments on enjoying her job.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Naga has previously addressed the “buzz” she gets from her role and mishaps on live TV leading to laughter in the studio.

In a 2023 interview with The Independent, after 10 years in her role, Naga explained how she still found it exhilarating.

“I am always buzzing,” she said.“I’m buzzing before I start the show, because you have to go in with that energy.”

Live TV doesn’t always go smoothly however, with memorable moments and unpredictable interviews including Lewis Capaldi leaving Naga and the BBC Breakfast crew in hysterics when he brought up “rimming”.

“I love them,” Naga said of unpredictable interviews. “I absolutely love them.

“As much as there is a persona you have when you are on telly as a host, you have to be human.”

“When Lewis said that it was just really funny,” she added. “But you also have to be mindful of the sensibilities of your audience.

“So you also acknowledge that it was a bit rude. Our audience is smart, they get that it’s live TV.”
