BREAKING NEWS: E! News CANCELED after 34 years as staff ‘SUDDENLY ALERTED’

The celebrity-focused newscast E! News has officially been cancelled after 34 years on the air with its final broadcast coming this fall.

While E! News will no longer air new episodes nightly, the brand will be continuing as a digital brand. According to reports by the Hollywood Reporter, the show will air its final episode on Sept. 25.

The outlet confirmed that those working for the show were informed of the news Thursday, July 24. Access Hollywood and Access Daily will resume on as normal from their production facility at Terrace Studios in New Jersey. This update comes as many television shake-ups have occurred in recent weeks, including the heartbreaking cancellation of the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The axing of E! News comes three years after the show returned from a two-year hiatus, after it was initially cancelled by the network during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The series, originally a daytime program, later returned as a late-night broadcast airing at 11 p.m.

After the news as announced, E! News fans took to social media sharing their disappointment over the update. Under an Instagram announcement one fan commented, “WOW. This show was apart of my childhood and introduced me to so many celebrities.”

Expressing their gratitude for all the coverage E! News has rolled out over the years, another fan wrote, “Oh wow!!! This was the go-to entertainment channel growing up!! It was everything and more. Thank you E! For giving us premium content and entertainment.”

While another person added, “What is this yall we need to all get those lil 90s tvs in plug em up in our walls in one of the rooms in our 6 bedroom houses in start watching tv again life was real life back then.”

Someone else nostalgically wrote, “I miss when Joan Rivers was on there flaming everybody’s outfits after award shows lmao.”

While another chimed in, “Technology and social media put a lot of people out of jobs.”

The late-night show covered everything movie, music, television and pop culture for the past three decades. The show is currently hosted by the entertaining duo Justin Sylvester and Adrienne Bailon-Houghton as they give fans the scoop on all things entertainment and conduct in-studio celebrity interviews.

The reason for the show’s axing is due to E! News’ decision to shift their business efforts towards digital and social media platforms. Cable television viewership has tanked across the board in recent years with many people now seeking their celebrity news and commentary through other platforms such as online articles, social media, subscription-based streaming services, and podcasts.
