One of the top stories of Super Bowl 59 was Taylor Swift getting booed after being shown on the jumbotron while cheering on Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The world’s biggest music star and the Chiefs superstar tight end have been in a relationship for approximately 18 months. Swift was at the Caesars Superdome to watch Travis Kelce and company aim for the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat, a bid that ended with a stunning 40-22 blowout loss to Jalen Hurts’ Eagles.
Despite her global popularity, Taylor Swift was booed by the crowd when featured on the Caesars Superdome. That was largely because Eagles supporters largely outnumbered Kansas City fans in the big game.
Nonetheless, Swift appeared to be surprised and caught off guard by the booing:
Sarah Jones of Page Six heard from a source that Travis Kelce’s parents (Donna and Ed) and brother Jason “would love to see” the Chiefs star stay together. Additionally, the source told the outlet that the Kelce family was upset about Swift being booed at the Super Bowl.
“Travis’ family felt awful when Taylor was booed,” the source told Page Six. “They don’t think anybody deserves that.”
Like any prominent and successful celebrity, Swift will have her fair share of critics and haters. But a music star with her army of fans is only used to receiving thunderous cheers and ovations, so it’s understandable that she was left taken aback by the boos.
Travis Kelce May Retire After Super Bowl Loss
The 35-year-old Kelce signed a two-year contract extension with the Chiefs last year, but he hasn’t yet committed to another season. Kelce had his worst statistical season since becoming a regular starter in 2014, recording 97 catches for just 823 yards and five touchdowns.
Travis Kelce could decide to walk away before he declines any further physically, but a fiery competitor like him may find it difficult to retire after a humiliating defeat in the big dance.
