NFL fans have offered plenty of reactions to one of the most shocking trades to take place this offseason following the Eagles’ decision to part ways with safety CJ Gardner-Johnson.
GM Howie Roseman has earned himself a considerable margin for error after building a formidable squad last year. But Philly fans are now concerned following some suspect moves, with the latest coming in the form of today’s trade.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are sending CJ to the Texans in exchange for offensive lineman Kenyon Green and a 2026 fifth-round pick swap while also handing Houston a 2026 sixth-rounder.

The safety was crucial to the Eagles’ success last season. He made six interceptions during the Super Bowl-winning campaign, the same number he reached during his first stint with the team in 2022.
Gardner-Johnson did not seem pleased with the news but was gracious in his exit as he took to social media to say goodbye.
“This decision wasn’t mine, but I walk away proud of what we built together,” he wrote. “To my teammates: Brothers, we bled, cursed, and laughed through it all. To the coaches and front office: Thank you for trusting a kid from Florida with a chip on his shoulder to lead this defense. And to the Philly Faithful — you’re unmatched. You embraced my edge and fire, for this game even when I got too hot.”

It’s safe to say that fans aren’t so sure about the move.
“Mf hit howie ass to hard in the head with that beer,” one declared.

“Howie is letting our entire defense, that was the top defense in the league, just walk. I don’t understand this, but I’m gonna be patient, and see where this goes!!!” someone else wrote.

“Not a fan of this move,” said a third.

“We let him leave again wtf 💔 literally everyone else has made sense except this,” a user claimed.

Meanwhile, the incoming player could prove to be an important one for the Eagles offense. Green, the No. 15 overall pick in 2022, did not live up to expectations in Houston yet offers plenty of potential.
His departure marks the second OL trade from the team since free agency opened, with left tackle Laremy Tunsil being dealt to the Commanders on Monday. The team also released Shaq Mason before free agency.
Green has started 23 games for the Texans but was benched last season after he found it difficult to protect quarterback CJ Stroud.
