Ozzy and Sharon, 72, had spoken about wanting to move back to the UK from Los Angeles prior to the rocker’s deteriorating health. Ozzy stated he was “desperate to come home”. While they had hoped to relocate in the past, ongoing health issues for Ozzy delayed the move as he battled Parkinson’s and underwent various surgeries for a spinal injury.

“It’s time for me to spend some time with my grandkids,” he told the Guardian in May as he prepared for his final show. “I don’t want to di3 in a hotel room somewhere. I want to spend the rest of my life with my family.”

The star and wife Sharon were expected to settle back in their Buckinghamshire home to coincide with the farewell gig.

Ozzy had made no secret about his desire to move back to England, speaking about his goal way back in August 2022 after more than two decades in Los Angeles. He scathed “everything’s f***ing ridiculous (in America).”

He also cited gun violence in the country as another reason for his desire to leave. “Everything’s f***ing ridiculous [in America]. I’m fed up with people getting killed every day,” he told The Observer.

“God knows how many people have been shot in school shootings. And there was that mass shooting in Vegas at that concert. … it’s f***ing crazy.”

However, the move was delayed for years due to Ozzy’s ailing health.

‘I saw last gig it was perfect send off’

Speaking to Planet Rock’s Loz Guest about Black Sabbath’s star-studded Back to the Beginning concert on 5th July, Sharon confirmed that the show had given Ozzy the chance to come home at last.

She said: “He’s coming over in March. His brothers (in Black Sabbath), he’s excited to be here with them.”

Asked if they were still permanently moving back to the UK after the gig, Sharon replied: “Yeah, we are.”

Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3 1948 in Aston, Birmingham, Ozzy left school at 15 and did odd jobs including factory work before teaming up with school friend Geezer Butler in several bands.

The pair then linked up with the other founder members of Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward, to form what was then called Earth Blues Company – later shortened to Earth – in 1968.

Initially a Mod who loved soul music, Osbourne crafted a darker image after writing lyrics for a song entitled Black Sabbath after the 1963 Boris Karloff film of the same name.

The name stuck – after they were forced to change it from Earth – and the band went on to sell millions of records over the next decade on the back of sound-defining tracks including Paranoid and War Pigs. The band became widely credited for defining the sound of heavy metal.

But drug use began to take its toll on Osbourne and his relationship with his fellow band members, and he was eventually fired in 1979.

He launched a solo career, enjoying success during the 1980s, before reforming with Sabbath several times – including in 2016 for a final world tour.

Back in 2022, Ozzy declared “Birmingham forever,” during a surprise performance at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony in his home city. The Black Sabbath star was one of many Brummie acts to perform, including Dexy’s Midnight Runners, UB40, and Musical Youth.
