BBC’s RICHARD Osman has shared an update on The Thursday Murder Club ahead of the film adaptation of his popular crime series.

The 54-year-old, best known for being one of the hosts BBC gameshow Pointless from 2009 until 2022, shared the good news with fans, in a post about why 2025 will be an exciting year.

Richard started The Thursday Murder Club series in 2020
Richard expanded his career back in 2020, releasing his debut novel The Thursday Murder Club.

The book follows a group of pensioners – Elizabeth Best, Ron Ritchie, Joyce Meadowcroft and Ibrahim Arif – who are trying to solve the mystery of the murder of a property developer.

The book was praised by dozens of people and became the fastest selling adult crime debut in history, selling over 10 million copies worldwide.

The Pointless star went on to release sequels to the popular novel, with The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, and The Last Devil to Die, being released in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

And now he’s shared the exciting news that he has finished his fifth book and it is set to go on sale later this year.

Sharing the news on social media, Richard shared an image of his laptop screen with the words ‘The End’ and a word count of 94,026.

He wrote: “And that’s the fifth Thursday Murder Club book DONE! I’ll be revealing the title later today. Out in September!”

Fans have flooded to congratulate him, with one saying: “My gran absolutely loved your books.”

Another wrote: “l have a 4 month old by September and I can’t wait to devour this book during my sleepless baby fuelled nights !!!!”

While a third said: “Your books are my prize every September for surviving the summer holidays with the children thank you!!”

It comes as a film adaptation of his book The Thursday Murder Club was announced and due to be released on Netflix.

The film, which Richard serves as executive producer on, will feature Helen Mirren as former spy Elizabeth Best, Sir Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim Arif, Pierce Brosnan as Ron Richie, and Celia Imrie as Joyce Meadowcroft.

Speaking on BBC Bookclub, Richard revealed he “wasn’t involved in the script or anything like that”, despite having penned the source material.

He said: “It was a deliberate choice because you’re either really involved or you’re not, and I honestly would rather spend my time writing another book than getting involved in all of that so I absolutely left them to it.”

For the film, its leading stars will be joined by Doctor Who legend David Tennant as well as Jonathan Pryce and Naomi Ackie.

Line of Duty’s Daniel Mays and Inbetweeners star Henry Lloyd-Hughes round out the lineup.

Other announced names include Richard E. Grant, Geoff Bell, Tom Ellis and Paul Freeman.

Richard’s wife, actress Ingrid Oliver, whom he married in 2022, also has a role in the film.
