Pope Francis has been in hospital since Valentine's Day

Sky News has abruptly interrupted their regular broadcast for an urgent update on Pope Francis’ health.

Broadcasting from Vatican City, seasoned reporter Lisa Holland has been closely following the Pope’s hospitalisation, delivering her report from the city’s heavy rain.

“Just one line, as we have come to expect with these morning updates, that the Pope had a peaceful night and is resting,” she shared. “I think throughout the course of today, what we really will be waiting for news on is the results of the CT scan which Pope Francis underwent at the Gemelli Hospital yesterday.”

She continued: “Sky News was told that we would be given the results of that CT scan today. Why it is of interest, I think, is because it should give doctors a real sense as to whether or not Francis is winning his battle against pneumonia in both lungs.

“That scan should give them a clear view of the extent of the infection and whether or not the treatment programme that he has been undergoing is working.” She added: “The suggestion from the Vatican (is) that the Pope will attempt, even in his fragile state, to have another visitor.

“Today, we’re told to expect a visit from the Vicar General of the Diocese of Rome. If that goes ahead that will only be the third person to visit Pope Francis since he went into hospital on February the 14th,” reports the Express. “Previously, he had a visit from the secretary of state of the Vatican, and he was also visited last mid week, last week by the Italian Prime Minister.”

Lisa continued her report by adding that the Pope is still suffering with health issues. “The Vatican is saying that his mild kidney problem persists and he remains on oxygen,” she added.

The 88 year old initially checked into Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 due to respiratory issues that had been bothering him for several days. What began as treatment for bronchitis soon escalated to a pneumonia diagnosis affecting both lungs.

On Sunday, Pope Francis reached out to his global flock, requesting their prayers by announcing: “I am confidently continuing my hospitalisation at the Gemelli Hospital, carrying on with the necessary treatment; and rest is also part of the therapy!”

He showed considerable appreciation for the support he’s received, thanking the medical team, hospital personnel, and all those sending good wishes, giving a special shout-out to the youngest well-wishers who’ve sent heartfelt letters and artwork.
