Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk were reported to be embroiled in two bust-ups even before the weigh in for their undisputed World Heavyweight Championship fight this Saturday night.

At the regular rules meeting, Team Usyk protested against the Fly gloves to be worn by Dubois this Saturday night at Wembley.

This brand of glove contains only a thin padding of horse hair which minimises the reduction of punching power like Dynamite Daniel’s – meaning he can cause more damage.

They are banned in the US and some other parts of the world but approved by the British Boxing Board of Control who are expected to permit their use in this fight.

The gloves are the ones Chris Eubank Jr objected to Conor Benn wearing in their fight in April.

Team Dubois sought a precise ruling as to how high Usyk can wear his trunks. This follows the controversy in their first fight in Poland when the Ukrainian hero was given time to recover from an arguable low blow which Dubois thought had given him an astonishing upset victory.

But Usyk is not known for wearing his shorts above the waist line.

At the weigh in Dubois scaled 243lbs 8 oz, ten pounds heavier than for the first fight, presumably to enhance the hefty power which gives a big puncher’s chance of an upset.

It also gives him a one-and-a-half-stone weight advantage over Usyk’s 227lbs 3 ounces, which is six pounds more than he scaled in Wrocław two summers ago.
