CANDID CONFESSION: ‘Today’ Hoda Kotb Gives DETAILS On Her SPLIT From Ex-Fiance

Hoda Kotb has recently opened up about her relationship with ex-fiance Joel Schiffman. The Today host spoke on The Jamie Kern Lima Show on Tuesday, August 13. While they are no longer together, Hoda and Joel frequently see each other. So, what went wrong in their relationship? Here is what she had to say.

Hoda & Her Ex Were ‘Growing At Different Paces’

According to Hoda Kotb, she and her ex were “growing at different paces” before they decided to go their separate ways.

“I think a lot of people are probably in these situations. One person’s growing… or one person wants it this way, and one person wants it that way,” she said. The Today With Hoda & Jenna cohost said that it is often “hard to be in sync.”

Although their romantic relationship didn’t work out, Hoda still thinks the world of Joel. She said he is one of “the best people” she knows. “He really is a great human being,” Hoda continued. “And I feel like I’m a pretty great human being, but sometimes two great human beings together isn’t quite enough to make it work.”

Hoda Kotb Is Back In The Dating Pool

The news broke about Hoda and Joel’s breakup in January 2022. They were together for eight years and were engaged to be married. She spoke about the split on Today With Hoda & Jenna.

Hoda Kotb said that they spent some time reflecting over the holidays and decided that they were “better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple.” Ultimately, they decided to go their separate ways and focus on their two adorable children, Haley and Hope.

She clarified that nothing happened between the two of them to cause the breakup. “They say sometimes relationships are meant to be there for a reason or a season or for a lifetime,” she said at the time. “And I feel like ours was meant to be there for a season.”

After they called off the engagement, Hoda and Joel continued to work together to co-parent their children. The pair adopted their daughter Haley (2017) and Hope (2019). She revealed, “He sees the kids. He takes them to school some, and he sees them on weekends. We’ve got a really nice, easy situation.”

Earlier this year, Hoda Kotb spoke about getting back into the dating world. In March, she told Kelly Clarkson that she went on a date for the first time in two years. Then, in May, she shared that she would be going on a third date with a man who remains a mystery.

She said that it was good to get out and talk about “something that wasn’t kids and wasn’t work.” While she’s kept the man’s identity under wraps, she said that “he’s really handsome.”
