NFL fans awaiting a free agency decision from quarterback Aaron Rodgers might not want to get their hopes up too high.
The New York Jets released the 41-year-old from his contract last week, making Rodgers a free agent for the first time in his career. Rodgers has spoken with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, and it’s been reported that the Minnesota Vikings also have interest in their longtime Kryptonite.
Rodgers has been free to sign with a new team since free agency officially opened last week, but it sounds like the four-time MVP isn’t exactly close to making a decision.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Rodgers doesn’t appear to be in a rush to make his decision. In fact, Rapoport said he could wait until the end of the 2025 NFL Draft (Apr. 24-26) to decide:
“I don’t get the sense he’s in a hurry at all, I really don’t. There’s no deadline for him to be. He doesn’t have to decide by any time. He sort of controls this thing, there’s no actual deadline.
If you’re the Giants or the Vikings or the Steelers or whoever ends up signing Rodgers, if it’s anyone, then you’d like it now. But, the next point is do you draft someone? That’s a month or so away. All of us would kind of like this done sooner rather than later. …
“Could it go all the way to the draft like it did two years ago?”
Aaron Rodgers is taking a risk here by prolonging his free agency decision. The Giants, Vikings and Steelers are the only realistic landing spots for him at this phase, but Minnesota could pivot away and fully commit to J.J. McCarthy any day now.
The Giants hold the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and could target Miami’s Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. The Steelers could also target a QB at the draft, bring back Russell Wilson or target another free agent like Jameis Winston.

Rodgers has the ideal landing spot waiting for him in Pittsburgh, making his patience all the more baffling. If he wants to win a Super Bowl, the four-time MVP has a real good shot at doing so in Pittsburgh.
He’d have an elite receiving tandem in D.K. Metcalf and George Pickens, a quality offensive line, a top-10 defense and a future Hall of Fame head coach in Mike Tomlin. If that’s not good enough for Rodgers, what exactly is he looking for?
