Victoria Beckham’s meeting with Queen Camilla comes under fire over ‘inappropriate’ outfit

The reception celebrated the 15th anniversary of Women of the World

Queen Camilla hosted a Buckingham Palace reception on Tuesday and Victoria Beckham was a guest to support the important cause.

The reception was to mark the 15th anniversary of WOW (Women of the World) – a global network of festivals which champion gender equality.

President of WOW Queen Camilla, 77, was joined by many famous guests including fashion designer Victoria, 50, and actress Ruth Jones.

However, Victoria’s outfit choice sparked many mixed opinions. Some people thought it was “inappropriate” for the event as it looked like an evening gown.

Victoria, who is married to former footballer David Beckham – a friend to the royals, wore a stunning blue asymmetric midi dress with a draped detailing on the shoulder from her own clothing collection. She added heels to the look and delicate jewellery pieces.

Not keen on her dress choice. Not appropriate for a day meet.

One person said on X: “Does she know it’s the middle of the day? Why is she wearing evening wear? No judgment of course.”

Another wrote: “Not keen on her dress choice. Not appropriate for a day meet.”

A third added: “Wrong outfit.”

But there were many who loved Victoria’s dress and also gushed over her elegant curtsy to the queen.

Another added: “Victoria – one of the most classy women ever.”

Meanwhile, someone else said: “What a lovely, serious, curtsy.”

One person hit back at the criticism over Victoria’s dress, writing: “It’s the perfect dress for a DAY greeting, what are you even talking about?”

The royal family’s social media pages shared a video from Queen Camilla’s meeting at the palace on Tuesday.

A caption explained that the queen “hosted a group of incredible women (and men!) leading their fields from the arts to education and business to celebrate the charity’s milestone”.

Queen Camilla also spoke to young women and girls involved in WOW’s programme for young people. It focuses on “gender inequality and promoting inclusion for the next generation,” the social media post explained.

Camilla has been a stable support for WOW since its launch in 2010. She became president in 2015.

WOW champions gender equality and celebrates “the achievements of women and girls everywhere and examining the obstacles that stop them from fulfilling their potential”.
