Julian Lewis, a 17-year-old five-star recruit committed to the Colorado Buffaloes, is already drawing comparisons to legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Lewis is a star quarterback at Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Georgia. He received offers from marquee NCAA football programs like Georgia and Ohio State, but announced in November that he was committing to Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes.
The five-star recruit is set join a Colorado offense that faces a tough task of rebuilding without quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way phenom Travis Hunter, who are headed to the NFL. Hunter is expected to be a top-five pick, with Sanders likely to be a first-round selection as well.
A viral video has emerged of Julian Lewis’ slick release on a couple of throws, and it’s already drawing comparisons to the four-time NFL MVP:
“He definitely has some Aaron Rodgers in that release,” wrote one fan.
“That boy gone be the truth I wanna see him,” said another.
“and he’s draft eligible in 2028 when’s only 20 years old 👀😳,” a user wrote.
“This kid will give us a legit chance at a Natty,” wrote a fan.
In his junior 2024-25 season, Julian Lewis threw for 3,798 yards, 48 touchdowns and seven interceptions to go along with 86 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Incredibly, Lewis threw for 48 touchdowns in his sophomore and junior seasons as well.
Deion Sanders took over the Buffaloes’ coaching program following a three-year tenure at Jackson State, where he won two SWAC Championships. The Buffs went 4-8 in year one under Coach Prime but improved drastically with a 9-4 finish in 2024, concluding with a loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl.

Shedeur Sanders was a superstar behind center during his two years at Colorado, completing 71.8 percent of pass attempts for 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions in 24 games.
Lewis will eventually be tasked with taking over an offense that’ll sorely miss the dynamic Travis Hunter, Shedeur’s most trusted target. But Coach Prime has proven to be the ultimate players’ coach who gets the most out of his guys, so Lewis is certainly in good hands.
