Andy Reid signs division rival star to $20 million contract to help Kansas City Chiefs defense after Super Bowl disaster

This rival star also picked off Patrick Mahomes in the 2024 campaign

THE Kansas City Chiefs have signed a familiar face to their defense after the team’s brutal 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last month.

Andy Reid’s squad signed a division rival star to a $20 million contract on Tuesday ahead of NFL free agency.

The Chiefs signed free-agent cornerback Kristian Fulton to a two-year, $20 million contract, which has $15 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fulton played with the Chargers last season and had a productive season.

He posted 51 total tackles, one interception, and seven passes defended.

The 26-year-old also allowed the 11-lowest passer rating when targeted as the nearest defender (69.7), per Next Gen Stats.

And Fulton’s lone interception in 2024 came off of his now-Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes.

The cornerback will be on his third team since entering the NFL in 2020.

Fulton was a second-round draft pick by the Tennesee Titans.

Unfortunately for the LSU product, he got hit with injuries in his first four seasons with the team.

Fulton missed 23 games during that span.

After finishing his rookie contract with the Titans, he joined the Chargers on a one-year, $3.1 million deal.

The Chiefs have been busy since their 2024 season came to an end.

They’ve signed Fulton, former San Francisco 49ers players Jaylon Moore and Elijah Mitchell, and re-signed wide receiver Marquise Brown and long snapper James Winchester.

Kansas City has also lost numerous players in free agency, including wideout Justin Watson, running back Samaje Perine, and edge rusher Tershawn Wharton.

They also traded All-Pro offensive lineman Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears.


The Chiefs still have to make decisions on 19 free agents as the new league year officially begins on Wednesday.

Among the players are safety Justin Reid, pass rusher Charles Omenihu, and wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins, Mecole Hardman, and Juju Smith-Shuster.

Kansas City will then get ready for the NFL Draft, which takes place on April 24.

The Chiefs own the No. 31 overall pick in the draft.
